Jesus is God on Trial

Jesus is God on Trial

John 8:13-29

When God showed up in the flesh, and “came to His own,” they put Him on trial. This scene in the treasury of the temple is filled with courtroom language, with the Pharisees acting as prosecution and judges. This exchange of words is similar to Jesus’ temptation in the wilderness, with Satan speaking through the religious leaders. In this story, we see Jesus’ continued confidence of His identity as the Divine Son of God in the flesh. He gives us a glimpse of His experience as God and Man, remaining with the Father and yet sent into the world. He knows the crucifixion is coming. He says that their very act of crucifying Him will be a revelation of who He really is. Because Jesus came to be judged by God in our place, we can escape the judgment of condemnation. We don’t have to die in our sins, if we will trust in Jesus. He always does those things that please the Father. And this is what we look like to God if we trust in Him.
