Glorious Love

Glorious Love

John 13:31-35

What does it mean for us to love one another as brothers and sisters in the family of God? What kind of love convinces the world that God sent Jesus? In John 13:31-35, Jesus tells His disciples to love one another even as He has loved them. Even though God’s people had already been commanded to love one another up to this point in the story, Jesus tells them that He is giving them a new commandment. His coming cross would transfigure our understanding and experience of love. The humble service of His having just washed their feet was meant to image His coming sacrifice at the cross. It was the cross that made this a new commandment. After the cross, love means something far more life-giving and life-changing than could previously have been imagined. Ask God to change our lives together, to show us the sacrificial love He is asking of us that will deepen our understanding and experience of His love for us.
